Bargain Buy

I found a few great bargains while shopping this past Saturday, and I didn't even need to use coupons!

Save-a-Lot

I'm really loving Save-A-Lot lately. I've been stocking up on cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soups, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce because the prices are so cheap (even cheaper than Wal-Mart!).

And my chin hit the floor when I found these bags of shell pastas, 7oz each, for just $0.29!! I grabbed 8 bags but would have gladly taken every bag on the shelf if I knew I could find room for them all in my cupboard.

I.G.A.

I've been doing a lot more shopping at I.G.A., too. I stopped shopping at Wal-Mart back in May (long story, but in a nutshell the fight at that store just wasn't worth it any longer). Things worked out for me because I'm saving more money shopping everywhere but Wal-Mart, and that includes items on my grocery list such as 50lb bags of dog food, meat and dairy products.

I.G.A had 1lb 8oz boxes of Trend laundry detergent on sale for $0.78. What a steal! I've never tried or even heard of this brand (in fact, I think it's been about 20 years since I last used powdered detergent). But for just $0.78, I'm willing to give it a try on my sheets and towels.

Food Lion

Food Lion has got to be the most expensive of all the grocery stores in this area. However, when they mark something down as a loss leader on the front page of their sales ads, it's usually an awesome deal.

The Food Lion brand 20oz boxes of Raisin Bran were marked down to just $0.99 each for 3 days only! I bought 4 boxes.

I was also in need of some olive oil. I've been really impressed with some spices that I bought recently (my mind is still boggled from how inexpensive they were), and I saw that Badia also makes olive oil which Food Lion sells. For just $7.99, I picked up a 1 liter bottle of EVOO. It was in the authentic foods aisle along with the spices and dried herbs. On the flip side, in the baking aisle, the equivalent size olive oil (different brand, of course) was almost $20!

And that, sweet sisters, are some bargain buys!
