Family Helps: Preserving Kids' Projects

If you have young children like me, then you probably like to put your kids' projects and crafts up on the refrigerator for proud parent display. But if you're also like me, you don't always know what to do with the old projects when the kids bring home more projects. My son brings home so many projects from preschool, and on top of what he makes at Primary (children's church) and what our daughter makes at Nursery (also at church), I constantly run out of room on the fridge! I hate to throw away their projects, so I scrapbook what I can, and put a lot of the projects in a portfolio case, but unfortunately some things just can't be kept. So to recognize and to preserve their sweet projects, I'll occasionally take pictures of them with their projects and then scrapbook the pictures. The kids really don't mind having their picture taken, so it's a win-win for everyone!

Of course, when we take a picture of one child, the other child feels like he/she has to be in the picture, too! Not that there's anything wrong with that!

My son with all his many projects from preschool--boy does he bring home a lot of stuff! He's holding up a book he made about the universe. He does such a good job and is always so pleased to show me what he makes at school.

My daughter with a necklace she made at Nursery. It says "I'm happy when I say I'm sorry). And she is happy here!

Do you have a favorite way to preserve your kids' projects and crafts? Please share by leaving a comment--I'd love to have some more ideas!

  1. That is a great idea! I have 3 children and the same problem, especially with the end of the school year coming they are bringing alot home. Thanks for the tip!

  2. You're definitely about to be bombarded! We just can't keep everything, unfortunately. :/ For me, taking a picture of the kids with their projects definitely helps me not feel so guilty about the stuff that we're not able to keep.

  3. One of the women in my daughter's preschool class was just telling me she does this the other day. It's a great idea I think and I need to start doing that. Emily is devastated every time she finds something from school in the garbage.
